You have a website — but is it actually working for your business? Many companies invest in Google Ads or social media without realising that the page clients land on is quietly driving them away. Before you spend another penny on promotion, go through this checklist.
1. Does the site load quickly?
Users are impatient. If a page takes longer than 3 seconds to load, more than half of visitors will leave. Check your site speed for free at pagespeed.web.dev. A score below 70 is a signal to act.
2. Does the site work on mobile?
Over 60% of web traffic comes from mobile devices. Open your site on your phone and check whether the text is readable, buttons are easy to tap, and nothing looks broken.
3. Is it immediately clear what you do?
A visitor should understand within 3 seconds what you offer and who it is for. If your headline is vague — it is time to replace it with something specific.
4. Is there a clear call to action?
Every page needs a clear CTA. Do you have a visible button saying "Call us", "Request a quote" or "Book an appointment"? Is it visible without scrolling?
5. Are your contact details easy to find?
Phone number, email address and location should be accessible without searching. Ideally in the header or footer on every page.
6. Does the site have an SSL certificate?
Your address should start with https:// not http://. A missing SSL certificate triggers a browser warning and puts clients off. It also negatively affects your Google ranking.
7. Does the site include client testimonials?
Reviews and testimonials are one of the most powerful trust-building elements. Even 3–4 short quotes with a name make a huge difference.
8. Are the texts written for clients — not for SEO?
Texts stuffed with keywords that sound unnatural put clients off and are increasingly ineffective with Google. Write naturally, answering the real questions your clients have.
9. Is Google Analytics installed?
Without analytics, you do not know where your visitors come from, which pages they spend the most time on, or where they drop off. It is a basic tool for making informed decisions.
10. Is the site up to date?
Outdated pricing, old portfolio pieces or a "opened in 2022" note raise doubts. Review your content regularly and update it — especially before a busy season or advertising campaign.
What next?
If you ticked fewer than 7 points — your site is probably losing potential clients every day. The good news is that most of these issues can be fixed relatively quickly.
